Ezequiel "Zekie" Chacon

EZEQUIEL CHACON

LTC Ezequiel Chacón, U.S. Army (Ret) was called home to reunite with his father Ignacio Chacón, his grandmother Dolores Ontiveros and numerous family members and friends, on Sunday morning, April 28, 2013 in El Paso , Texas . He was born on May 22, 1948 to Ignacio and Julieta M. Chacón. Zeke was a hard working and generous man who lived a full life filled with many blessings. He met his wife Margie Alderete in 1970 and they married in 1974. He served his country for 22 years and loved being a soldier. After the Army he joined ranks as an educator teaching in San Antonio, Texas for 14 years. Left to mourn his passing are his loving and devoted wife Margie Chacón; children: Albert Chacón and wife Shelby, Isabel Martinez and husband Joe, and Zeke Chacón; grandchildren: Kolton and Kiah Chacón , Victoria , Kayla & Katherynne Martinez, his mother Julieta M. Chacón and sister: Dolores Chacón; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. We will all miss you dearly, but there are so many memories for us to share that will keep your spirit alive. Pallbearers will be Albert Chacón, Zeke Chacón, MSGT Danny Franco Jr., Danny Franco Sr., Rudy Garcia, Robert Arrieta, Leo Carraveo and Valentine Ontiveros. Honorary Pallbearers: Joe Alderete Jr., Joe Martinez, Rudy Mares, David Medina and Louie Medina. Visitation will be Monday, May 6, 2013 from 9:00 to 11:00 am at Hillcrest Funeral Home-Doniphan. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 11:45 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will follow at 1:00 pm at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Boys Club of El Paso. Services under the direction of HILLCREST FUNERAL HOME 1060 Carolina Drive 598-3332

Zekie Chacon posthumously honored with Lifetime Music Acheivement Award

A Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to the family of the late Lieutenant Colonel Ezequiel Chacon, US Army, Retired, in recognition of Zekie's career as a rock'n'roll, swing, and big band musician.  The recognition was made along with those to nine other awardees during the Rock'n'Roll Legends Concierto de las Americas "Let the Good Times Roll, Part 3" festivities at the Theater of the Chamizal National Memorial on 18 July 2013.  Zekie's musical career also included saxophonist in the EPHS Tiger Marching Band where he was drum major during the 1965-66 school year.
